Two-vehicle accident causes major disruption, LTA advises motorists to avoid affected lanes.

A two-car accident along the Kallang–Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) towards Tampines Expressway (TPE) resulted in a dramatic crash on March 5, 2025. A black car overturned near the Tampines Road exit at around 3:25 PM, leaving a 28-year-old male driver injured. He was transported to Sengkang General Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident as footage of the crash circulates online.

This accident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in Singapore, especially along expressways where high-speed collisions can lead to severe crashes. The incident caused significant congestion, sparking discussions on accident prevention and driver awareness.

Two-Vehicle Collision Causes Car to Flip

The accident occurred in the KPE tunnel towards TPE near the Tampines Road exit. According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), they were alerted to the crash at approximately 3:20 PM.

Police confirmed that two vehicles were involved, though details on how the crash unfolded remain under investigation. The impact caused one of the cars, a black vehicle, to overturn and land upside down on the expressway, blocking lanes two and three.

Driver Taken to Hospital

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. The 28-year-old male driver of the overturned vehicle was found conscious and transported to Sengkang General Hospital for treatment. His current condition remains undisclosed.

The second vehicle involved in the accident did not report any injuries. However, authorities are investigating whether driver error, speeding, or other external factors played a role in the crash.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) issued an advisory on its X account at 3:44 PM, warning drivers to avoid lanes two and three near the Tampines Road exit due to heavy congestion. Traffic delays extended as far as the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) exit.

Footage of the accident quickly spread on social media, with videos showing the black car flipped upside down inside the tunnel. Online discussions highlighted concerns about high-speed driving within tunnels, with some netizens urging stricter enforcement of speed limits and better driver awareness campaigns.

Police have confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and witness statements to establish the sequence of events leading to the crash.

This accident follows a similar incident two weeks ago, where a taxi overturned near Jewel Changi Airport, sending two people to the hospital. The frequency of such incidents has renewed concerns about road safety and the potential risks of high-speed driving on Singapore’s expressways.

The dramatic accident in the KPE tunnel serves as a reminder of the dangers of expressway driving. While investigations continue, authorities and motorists alike must prioritize road safety to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

For international visitors and Singaporeans, this incident raises awareness about the importance of cautious driving, especially in high-speed zones like expressways and tunnels. Authorities may need to explore additional safety measures to reduce such accidents in the future.
