Batam, an Indonesian city known for its bustling trade and proximity to Singapore, has recently witnessed a disturbing incident involving criminal impersonation. This case has sparked public concern about safety in urban areas and the need for swift law enforcement responses to crimes involving false authority figures.

Woman Targeted in Broad Daylight

On Sunday, 2 February 2025, Kissy was attempting to buy lunch near Ayam Geprek Gold Chick, Taman Baloi, when three men in a silver Toyota Rush confronted her. Claiming to be police officers, they falsely accused her of drug use and attempted to forcibly drag her into their vehicle.

Despite their aggressive behavior, Kissy resisted the men’s attempts. She was denied the use of her phone to call for help, but managed to record the encounter, capturing critical evidence. The video shows her confronting the men, demanding explanations while they tried to force her into the car.

One of the men eventually realized they had targeted the wrong person, reportedly saying, “I think it’s the wrong person, let’s go.” The trio quickly fled the scene without offering any apology, leaving Kissy shaken but unharmed.

He stated that an investigation is underway to identify the suspects, in coordination with other law enforcement units. Kombes Anggoro Wicaksono, Director of Narcotics Investigation for Riau Islands Police, also confirmed that the case is under active investigation.

This case highlights the importance of vigilance against impersonators posing as law enforcement officers, particularly in busy urban areas like Batam. For Singaporeans and international visitors, the incident underscores the need to remain cautious when approached by individuals claiming to be officials. It also emphasizes the crucial role of public awareness and swift police action in addressing such security threats.
