Batam, November 20 — Batam’s Free Trade Zone (FTZ) is set to benefit from a comprehensive water management plan, as BP Batam hosted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on November 19, 2024. Themed “Strategic Planning for Integrated Water Resource Management,” the event gathered government officials, experts, and stakeholders to address the city’s growing water demands amid rising foreign investments and population growth. Discussions highlighted the need for harmonized policies and new infrastructure to ensure water sustainability in the region.
As Batam grows into a key economic hub in Southeast Asia, water resource management is emerging as a critical priority. BP Batam, tasked with overseeing water and wastewater systems under Government Regulation No. 41/2021, aims to ensure sustainable water supply and efficient wastewater management to support the Free Trade Zone (FTZ). This FGD provided a platform for strategic discussions and recommendations for integrated water resource management.
BP Batam is responsible for the development, management, and regulation of water systems, including setting water tariffs. Director of SPAM (Drinking Water Management Systems) Denny Tondano emphasized that comprehensive water management is vital to meeting the needs of residents, industries, and government facilities in Batam.

Key recommendations presented during the FGD include:
