In a late-night operation, Batam police dismantled a cockfighting arena, capturing four individuals involved while numerous gamblers fled the scene.
The raid conducted by the Barelang District Police at Ruli Rindu Malam opposite Mega Legenda in Batam highlights ongoing efforts to curb illegal gambling activities in the region.
The operation was initiated after local authorities received community reports about the gambling activities. A rapid investigation led to the raid executed on Saturday night, around 8:20 PM local time.
Four suspects were apprehended at the scene, identified only by their initials—A, S, San, and J. Authorities seized 14 fighting cocks, approximately Rp 11.95 million in cash (equivalent to about SGD 1,015.75), 82 motorcycles, and six cars as evidence of the gambling operation.
The suspects face charges under multiple sections of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which could lead to up to ten years in prison or fines up to Rp 25 million (around SGD 2,125). These laws target the facilitation and participation in public gambling activities.
Following the raid, police efforts continue to locate and apprehend other individuals who escaped during the operation, demonstrating the authorities’ commitment to dismantling illegal gambling networks fully.
