In a move to refine the procurement processes and bolster local economies, Batam’s City Government has initiated a technical training program for civil servants and local business practitioners on modern procurement standards.
On Thursday, September 26, 2024, Jefridin, the Secretary of Batam City, inaugurated a technical training session aimed at enhancing the capacity of government procurement officials and local entrepreneurs. Held at the Santika Hotel in Batam Centre, the event marks a significant step toward refining procurement practices within the local government framework.
The workshop was designed to educate participants on the electronic procurement of goods and services, ensuring that all government acquisitions adhere to the principles of competition, fairness, and transparency, as outlined in Presidential Regulation Number 12 of 2021.
Jefridin highlighted the government’s commitment to boosting the domestic economy through preferential procurement policies that favor domestic products and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This approach aims to enhance local economic development and public welfare.
With hundreds of business operators in attendance, the session focused on the critical role of government procurement in national development and improving public services. It emphasized the need for competent human resources in procurement roles to execute these tasks effectively.
The Secretary also discussed the government’s broader strategy to support local industries and cooperatives, aligning with modern management principles such as efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation.
