Rosan revealed his intention to hold discussions with his team to address delays in several investments, including the Foxconn project. “We need to move quickly within the remaining time to achieve as much as possible without violating legal frameworks,” said Rosan on Wednesday, 11 September 2024. His aim is to ensure that both foreign and domestic investments are properly allocated across regions, reducing the economic imbalance between Java and the outer islands.

The Rempang Eco City project, backed by China’s Xinyi Group, involves a significant investment of SGD 14.79 billion (Rp174 trillion). The groundbreaking is targeted for the first quarter of 2025. While the project has faced resistance from local communities, BP Batam is working on a solution through relocation efforts and community engagement to facilitate the project’s progress.

Foxconn’s investment, originally slated for 2023, has yet to materialize. Rosan identified this as one of the most significant challenges of his term, stating that ongoing negotiations with the Taiwanese tech giant could lead to the development of an electric vehicle and battery manufacturing plant in Indonesia.

The Rempang Eco City project is expected to boost Indonesia’s economic growth by creating an integrated industrial zone on 8,142 hectares of land. The development will include glass processing, solar panel manufacturing, and other green energy sectors, potentially positioning Indonesia as a leader in Southeast Asia’s renewable energy industry.

The total value of investment from Foxconn and Rempang projects could generate substantial economic returns for Indonesia. For instance, the Rempang project alone is expected to contribute to industrial growth and create jobs, while the Foxconn deal promises to enhance Indonesia’s standing in the global tech supply chain. Minister Rosan is keen to ensure these initiatives are realized within the set timelines, contributing to the overall investment target set by President Joko Widodo.

Minister Rosan’s proactive stance on these large-scale investments reflects Indonesia’s commitment to unlocking economic potential through foreign partnerships. Singaporeans and international investors will benefit from strengthened ties, expanded business opportunities, and a bolstered Southeast Asian market.

Indonesia’s Minister of Investment, Rosan Roeslani, is working to expedite major investments from Foxconn and Xinyi Group’s Rempang Eco City project, aiming to realize SGD 14.79 billion in green energy and manufacturing investments. These efforts are crucial to meeting Indonesia’s economic goals, with groundbreaking for Rempang scheduled for 2025.
