During the New Student Orientation at Universitas Terbuka (UT) Batam, held at Hotel AP Premier on Saturday, September 8, 2024, Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi called on young people to become entrepreneurs and actively participate in driving the city’s economy.
Mayor Muhammad Rudi highlighted the transformative impact of Batam’s ongoing development projects on creating entrepreneurial opportunities for youth. By investing in infrastructure and inviting investments, Batam is setting the stage for a new generation to leverage these developments for economic advantage.
Mayor Rudi emphasized the importance of adopting an entrepreneurial mindset among students. “Embed in yourselves the spirit of entrepreneurship,” he declared, underscoring that students are the key to tapping into and expanding the potential created by Batam’s rapid development.

With substantial investments flowing into Batam and continuous infrastructure development, Rudi expressed his conviction that students have golden opportunities to explore and maximize their potential. “Development has opened wide doors to new opportunities. People are coming, investments are pouring in, and you, the students, must be ready to harness these potentials,” he stated.
Rudi stressed that students should not merely be spectators of Batam’s progress. Instead, they should be the main actors driving the city’s economic engine. “You are the future successors. Please make the most of the current development outcomes,” he encouraged.
The mayor also advised students to prepare thoroughly during their university years by being active in learning and organizing, expanding their networks, and taking full advantage of their time as students to lay a solid foundation for their future careers.
