BPOM Batam Educates on Food Safety to Support Zero Stunting Generation

In Natuna, Kepulauan Riau, the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) of Batam has conducted a one-day educational program focusing on food safety for women, supporting the government’s initiative to achieve a stunting-free generation in the region.

The educational session organized by BPOM Batam aimed to deepen the participants’ understanding of food safety, which is crucial in the government’s efforts to reduce stunting rates. Therecy Elly Yana, an Advanced Expert in Pharmacy and Food Supervision at BPOM Batam, emphasized that unsafe food consumption is a primary contributor to stunting among children.

“Therecy Elly Yana highlighted the government’s priority to eradicate stunting. “We are committed to ensuring that future generations are strong and competitive,” she stated during the event held on Thursday.

The event was attended by dozens of participants, predominantly food business entrepreneurs. BPOM provided valuable insights on producing high-quality and safe processed foods for public consumption.

In addition to food safety and production practices, participants also learned about the safe use of cosmetics. There was a focus on the risks associated with unsafe cosmetics, which can cause skin damage and affect overall health.

“Therecy also addressed the issue of illegal cosmetics prevalent in the market. “Despite strict regulations, illegal cosmetics are still widely available. We aim to raise public awareness about the dangers of these products,” she added.

The knowledge imparted during the workshop is intended to be implemented and shared by participants with others in their communities, thereby spreading awareness and practices that contribute to health and safety.

Therecy expressed confidence that these efforts would prepare future generations to be more competitive and ensure they are not left behind.
