In the first half of 2024, a staggering S$298.9 billion was transferred from Indonesia to Singapore, marking a significant outbound flow of funds, according to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).
The PPATK report highlights a substantial flow of Indonesian money to international destinations, with Singapore receiving the lion’s share. This financial activity not only underscores the strong economic links between Indonesia and Singapore but also raises questions about the nature of these massive transfers.
Indonesia sent a total of S$298.9 billion to Singapore in the first semester of 2024, with the most significant transfers recorded in May, reaching nearly S$148.85 billion.

While Singapore received the highest amount, the United States and China also saw significant inflows from Indonesia, with respective totals of S$105.5 billion and S$62.6 billion.
The monthly transfers peaked dramatically in May but saw a decline in June to S$16.65 billion, indicating fluctuating financial movements.
Despite the high outgoing funds, Singapore also led in incoming transfers to Indonesia at S$108.85 billion, although this was significantly lower than the outgoing amounts.

Despite the large sums, there is no direct link to money laundering activities, with Singapore being one of the largest investors in Indonesia, suggesting legitimate economic activities.
