Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology aims to dramatically expand the teaching of Bahasa Indonesia globally, planning to introduce the language across 128 diplomatic missions in 94 countries by 2045. This initiative is part of a broader effort to internationalize Bahasa Indonesia and enhance its global stature.

The ambitious target set by the Ministry reflects Indonesia’s commitment to promoting its language and culture worldwide, positioning Bahasa Indonesia as a significant global language by its centennial independence anniversary in 2045.

The Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program is already active in 54 countries, introducing Indonesian language and culture internationally and bolstering diplomatic relationships.

As of 2023, 86 international universities offer Indonesian language courses, with prestigious institutions like Harvard and the University of Vienna participating, signaling a growing global interest in Bahasa Indonesia.

The initiative not only promotes the Indonesian language but also aims to foster greater understanding and collaboration between Indonesia and the global community through educational and cultural exchanges.
