The Barelang Police (Polresta Barelang) has successfully exposed an international online gambling syndicate operating out of Batam, Indonesia, with connections to Cambodia. This significant breakthrough came after meticulous investigation spurred by community reports on social media, highlighting the extensive reach of the syndicate centered in Sky Garden Apartment, Batam.
In a strategic operation underlined by international collaboration and diligent investigative work, the Barelang City Police have delivered a blow to a cross-border online gambling network. The crackdown not only disrupts a significant illicit operation but also showcases Indonesia’s commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting its citizens from the perils of illegal online gambling.
The investigation into the online gambling ring began following tips from the community regarding suspicious activities in the Sky Garden Apartment. The Barelang City Police’s Cybercrime unit swiftly initiated surveillance, leading to a raid that uncovered the syndicate’s operations.

During the operation on Monday, March 18, 2024, police apprehended 12 individuals and confiscated an array of evidence, including computers connected to the gambling site BOSCUAN89.COM, mobile phones, bankbooks, ATM cards, and SGD 1,275 (equivalent to 15 million IDR).
The arrested individuals, including the syndicate’s operators and managers, face charges under the Indonesian Electronic Information and Transactions Act, with potential penalties including up to 10 years in prison or fines up to approximately SGD 1,020,000 (10 billion IDR).
The syndicate employed social media platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram to recruit new gamblers, illustrating the modern tactics used by illegal gambling operations to expand their reach and ensnare unsuspecting individuals.
