In a significant bilateral meeting held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), Melbourne, Australia, on Tuesday, March 5th, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, engaged with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. This meeting, a day prior to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, marked a pivotal moment in the 75-year diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and Australia, with both leaders reiterating their commitment to bolster strategic cooperation within the Indo-Pacific region.
The dialogue underscored the transition of the Hannover Messe 2023 official partner country role from Indonesia to Norway, showcasing Indonesia’s continued leadership in fostering regional stability and economic growth. President Jokowi advocated for expanded market access, particularly through biosecurity cooperation for agricultural and fishery products, and welcomed the importation of beef and cattle from Australia.
Emphasizing the importance of cultural and educational exchanges, President Jokowi lauded Indonesia’s popularity among Australian students under the New Colombo Plan and invited more Australian youth to explore Indonesian culture and language.
