In a significant development, Indonesia’s National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) has officially charged a well-known Batam entrepreneur, identified only as Y, and his Malaysian associate, Kelvin, in a massive fraud and money laundering case. The duo is accused of embezzling funds worth billions of Rupiah from PT Hosana Exchange, a money changer business owned by a defrauded entrepreneur.
The case, which unfolded in 2018 and only came to light in 2019, involves the disappearance of tens to hundreds of billions in Singapore dollars and Malaysian ringgits from PT Hosana Exchange. Y, whose business ventures span hotels to ports, along with Kelvin and an employee named Mina, who is currently on the run, orchestrated the scheme that led to significant financial loss for the money changer’s owner.
After five years of investigation, Bareskrim Polri has finally named Y a suspect in the case, a development long awaited by the victim’s legal representative, Norayanti Simaremare, S.H.

The scheme was initiated by Kelvin, who manipulated Mina with romantic pretenses, leading to the illicit transfer of substantial funds intended for extravagant parties and luxury purchases, including a Ferrari.
An Investigation Warrant (SP2) was issued last month, marking the formal start of legal action against the suspects, with authorities imposing a travel ban to ensure their availability for the trial.
The fraudulent activities forced the victim to liquidate assets to settle debts with clients, highlighting the severe impact of the crime on legitimate business owners.
