In a significant operation, the Riau Islands Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate successfully apprehended two individuals linked to an online prostitution network operating through the MiChat application in Batam. The operation unfolded following two police reports, leading to a sting operation at a local hotel. The investigation revealed the use of the MiChat app to offer sexual services, marking a concerning trend in the misuse of social media for illegal activities.
Two men were arrested at a Batam hotel, accused of facilitating online prostitution via MiChat. The arrests followed surveillance and interaction with an account offering women for sexual services.

Authorities confiscated mobile phones, vehicles, documentation, contraceptives, and cash totaling IDR 600,000 (approximately SGD 51.60), highlighting the extent of the operation.
The suspects face charges under multiple laws, including electronic information and transaction legislation and anti-pornography laws, with penalties up to 5 years imprisonment and fines up to IDR 100 billion (approximately SGD 8,546,000)
The Riau Islands Police urge the public to remain vigilant against misinformation and hoaxes, especially with the upcoming 2024 elections, underscoring the commitment to maintaining public order and safety.
