Indonesia is set to revolutionize the transportation and trade landscape between Batam and Johor by proposing a new ferry route specifically designed for cargo trucks, aiming to accelerate the economic growth of both regions.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru has initiated discussions on establishing a dedicated ferry service for cargo trucks between Batam and Johor, signaling a significant step in enhancing trade relations and economic development in the region.
Consul General Sigit Suryantoro Widiyanto revealed ongoing discussions between Batam and Johor to establish a roll-on, roll-off (RORO) ferry route aimed at bolstering trade and connectivity.

The proposed ferry service will cater exclusively to cargo trucks, providing an efficient and cost-effective transport alternative for small and medium-sized enterprises to access international markets.
The suggested terminals for this route are Batu Ampar Port in Batam and Tanjung Belungkor Ferry Terminal in Johor, with a travel time of approximately two hours and a capacity to carry up to 70 trucks per trip.
The ferry service is expected to significantly benefit the tourism sectors of both regions, with plans to potentially allow passenger cars on the RORO ferries to further boost tourism.

On a related note, Consul General Widiyanto also addressed the upcoming Indonesian general elections, highlighting the participation of the Indonesian diaspora in Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, and Pahang.
