Indian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Sandeep Chakravorty, along with Consul General Shubham Singh, visited Batam, Indonesia, on January 28, 2024, to explore investment opportunities.
The Indian Ambassador and his delegation met with Muhammad Rudi, the Head of BP Batam, to discuss potential investments in Batam. They also celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia.
Muhammad Rudi highlighted Batam’s efforts to attract foreign investment, emphasizing its openness to investors and the potential for economic growth in the region.
The Indian Ambassador expressed interest in investments, particularly in Batam’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for Health, where he aims to encourage Apollo Hospital, a renowned Indian healthcare institution, to invest.
Ambassador Chakravorty also discussed infrastructure projects, including the development of the Batu Ampar Container Port, in collaboration with PT Persero.
The Indian Ambassador aims to foster closer cooperation between Batam and India, addressing the fact that many Indian companies currently invest in Batam through Singapore-based entities.

Chakravorty highlighted the significance of the 75-year diplomatic relationship between India and Indonesia and their strong trade partnership, with bilateral trade reaching nearly $39 billion USD in 2022-2023.
This visit signifies increased investment prospects in Batam and strengthens the longstanding relationship between India and Indonesia.
