In a strategic move to enhance its cultural heritage, Penyengat Island in the Riau Archipelago, Indonesia, is set for major revitalization under the guidance of Kepri Governor Ansar Ahmad.
Governor Ansar Ahmad’s recent visit to Penyengat Island, following his work trip to Natuna, underscores a significant plan to revitalize the island, elevating its status as a top cultural tourism destination.
Governor Ansar Ahmad, along with Tanjungpinang’s acting Mayor Hasan, inspected the Penyengat Island Cultural Hall and the Sultan Riau Grand Mosque, two key landmarks on the island.

Governor Ahmad instructed the Provincial Government’s departments to refurbish and restore the Cultural Hall, ensuring it remains a representative and appealing site for visitors.
Penyengat Island, with its historical, cultural, and religious significance, is set to be enhanced with improved facilities and aesthetic appeal, including rehabilitation and infrastructure development.
Significant projects proposed to the Central Government include the continuation of road, drainage, and clean water projects and the construction of the National Language Monument, which is aimed to be completed in 2024.

Acknowledging Penyengat Island’s role in the birth of the Indonesian language, Governor Ahmad aims for UNESCO World Heritage recognition, promoting the island globally as a cultural magnet.
