The Kepulauan Riau Province, positioned strategically near Singapore, emerges as a pivotal maritime and tourism axis for Indonesia, as articulated by Governor Ansar Ahmad at the S. Rajaratnam Dialog Endowment Regional Outlook Forum in Singapore.
Governor Ansar Ahmad of Kepulauan Riau highlighted the province’s unique potential at the prestigious forum in Singapore. Consisting of over 2,400 islands, Kepri boasts rich natural resources and strategic location, making it ideal for maritime and tourism sectors.
Ansar emphasized Kepri’s rich marine, beach, mangrove forests, and biodiversity, promoting economic growth and societal well-being. The proximity to Singapore and Malaysia and its place in international shipping routes offer substantial trade, logistics, and connectivity opportunities.

Efforts by the provincial government include promoting Special Economic Zones (SEZ) on islands like Batam, Bintan, and Karimun, offering incentives for investors. The development of infrastructure and amenities, such as ports, airports, highways, bridges, and electricity, accelerates mobility and accessibility.
Tourism destinations like beaches, islands, national parks, and cultural heritage are being developed to attract domestic and international tourists.
Kepri has shown notable economic growth, recording a 4.88% increase in the third quarter of 2023, and holds the third-highest Human Development Index (HDI) in Indonesia at 79.08 in 2023.
