Governor Ansar Ahmad, alongside Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, warmly welcomed the first international tourists of 2024 to the Riau Islands, marking a significant moment for the region’s tourism sector.
The event took place at Bandar Bentan Telani Port in Lagoi, Bintan, on January 1, 2024, signifying Kepri’s readiness to attract more international visitors and boost its tourism industry.
Alongside Governor Ansar and Minister Sandiaga, local leaders like Bintan’s Regent Roby Kurniawan, heads of tourism departments, and military and police officials attended the welcoming ceremony.

The event featured cultural symbols like flower garlands and traditional ‘tanjak’ headgear, highlighting the region’s rich heritage.
Minister Sandiaga Uno shared that Kepri’s proposal for Visa on Arrival (VoA) is under consideration, aiming to facilitate easier access for tourists.
Governor Ansar revealed that Kepri’s tourist arrivals reached over 1.2 million by October 2023, with expectations of further increase by year-end.

The governor highlighted initiatives like new ferry routes to Malaysia, aiming to boost tourism and economic growth in the region.
