Machine and Electronics Industry Lead Foreign Investment in Batam for Q3 2023

Batam, located in the Riau Islands Province, has witnessed the machinery and electronics sector dominating the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) landscape in the third quarter of 2023, as reported by the Batam Authority (BP Batam).

Ariastuty Sirait, Head of Public Relations, Promotion, and Protocol at BP Batam, revealed that the machinery and electronics sector topped the list of FDI realizations in Batam during this period, followed by other significant sectors.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Investment, the machinery, electronics, medical instruments, electrical equipment, precision, optics, and watchmaking industries were the highest foreign investment contributors in Batam, securing USD 53.68 million (approx. Rp 794.48 billion) across 135 projects.

The food industry also made a substantial impact, with an investment value of USD 40.58 million (about Rp 600.66 billion) across 55 projects.

The rubber and plastic industry followed, recording investments of USD 19.28 million (Rp 285.40 billion) from 55 projects. Additionally, the basic metal industry, metal goods (excluding machinery and equipment), and the motor vehicle and other transportation equipment industry showed significant growth.

Ariastuty emphasized the strategic initiatives of BP Batam, such as easing licensing procedures and enhancing service quality, to maintain investor confidence and promote continued investment in Batam.
