Commemorating the 194th anniversary of Batam, Mayor Muhammad Rudi presided over the ceremony at Dataran Engku Putri, envisioning a transformative future for the city under the theme “Continuously Moving Forward Towards New Batam City.”
The anniversary marks 194 years since Batam was established, dating back to a decree from the Dipertuan Muda Riau Lingga to Raja Isa Ibni Raja Ali in 1245 Hijriyah (18 December 1829). The celebration reflects the city’s journey and aspirations for future growth.
The theme “Continuously Moving Forward Towards New Batam City” encapsulates Batam’s vision as a city that thrives on consistent, comprehensive, and sustainable development, considering social services and the well-being of its citizens.
“New Batam City” symbolizes hope and dreams, portraying Batam as a modern, prosperous “World Civilized City.” Batam’s diversity in culture, religion, and backgrounds fosters a collaborative spirit for the city’s advancement.
Development in Batam is a collective effort, involving not just government entities but all stakeholders, emphasizing Batam’s strategic position and international competitiveness.
The Indonesian government’s policy through the Economic Coordination Ministry Decree No. 7 of 2023 on Eco-City as part of the National Strategic Project underlines efforts to boost Batam’s economic growth and community welfare.
