In a concerted effort to curb illegal street racing and enforce traffic regulations, Batam’s Satlantas Polresta Barelang police conducted extensive ‘blue light’ patrols in key areas of the city on Saturday night, leading to significant enforcement actions against motorcyclists.

The operation, led by Unit Turjawali of Satlantas Polresta Barelang, focused on areas known for youth gatherings and potential street racing, including around Hotel 01, Hotel Harmoni One, and the Simpang Franky and Simpang Kara intersections.

The patrols resulted in 37 motorcyclists being penalized for various infractions, including the use of illegal exhaust systems (knalpot brong), lack of driving licenses (SIM), and incomplete vehicle documentation.

Most violators were teenagers, who were issued fines and educated about traffic laws, with a requirement to sign a statement of understanding.

Yudhi Patra of Satlantas emphasized the operation’s goal to maintain public safety, prevent illegal racing, and ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly on weekends.

The police also focused on educating the youth about the dangers of illegal racing and non-standard vehicle modifications, highlighting risks to themselves and others on the road.
