A Singaporean citizen, Lim Yew Beng Peter, faces the possibility of being listed as a wanted person (DPO) by the Bintan Prosecutor’s Office after failing to appear thrice in a case concerning the alleged corruption of land sale in Berakit Village.

Lim Yew Beng Peter, a Singaporean national, is under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in the corrupt sale of village assets in Berakit, which he purchased for approximately IDR 1.5 billion with plans to develop a resort.

The suspect, former village head M Nazar Talibek, sold land to Lim without the necessary approvals, leading to his detainment and the impending DPO status for Lim.

Investigations are ongoing to gather additional evidence and trace the flow of funds from the land sale, as the Bintan District Attorney’s Office confirms.

Despite being summoned twice, Lim Yew Beng Peter’s whereabouts remain unknown, currently believed to be outside the Riau Islands Province.

The Bintan District Attorney’s Office has communicated with the High Prosecutor’s Office to facilitate Lim’s appearance for the case proceedings.

The land sale transaction, which took place in front of a notary in 2012 without proper legal documentation, violates several Indonesian Ministerial Regulations regarding village asset management.

This case signifies the Indonesian legal system’s active pursuit of corruption, even when foreign nationals are involved, and serves as a reminder of the legal implications of engaging in property transactions abroad.

The Bintan District Attorney’s Office is set to declare a Singaporean citizen, Lim Yew Beng Peter, wanted after his repeated failure to appear in court regarding an alleged corrupt land sale in Berakit Village. The case, which involves a former village head already under arrest, highlights the seriousness of property transaction regulations and the consequences of non-compliance. The authorities are seeking to ensure legal adherence and mitigate corruption in property sales.
