Visitors to Sintai’s area are required to use condoms when engaging with the women who work there, a measure intended to protect the health of all parties involved. Reni (23), one of the commercial sex workers (PSK) Teluk Pandan or Sintai Localization, told BATAMTODAY that most of her customers refused to use condoms. Reni said, of the 4 to 6 guests per night, usually only two people want to wear the protection. “In fact, there was only one person, and that was forced first,” said Reni, Thursday (28/4/2016). M Nasir, Chairman of the Teluk Pandan Sintai Social Development Organization, has stated that all workers are legally required to undergo health checks at the community health center every three months. According to the head of Sintai, last year there were more than 200 prostitutes, and 2020 the decline can be seen when conducting screening or data collection on prostitutes, to be around 168 sex workers.

Beyond sexual services, Sintai is seen as a local economy booster too: “Well, the negative impact can be poisonous to the younger generation, but here we are trying to ensure that foster children have good behavior, for the positive impact it will open up new job opportunities for the local community, such as motorbike taxi drivers, laundry and food stalls” (NC 55 years old)
