Kepulauan Riau (Kepri) Province emerges as a prototype region for clean and efficient bureaucratic services and a corruption-free zone.

The Indonesian province of Kepri has been selected as the pilot project for establishing zones of clean, efficient bureaucracy and corruption-free territories.

Governor Ansar Ahmad highlighted the digital transformation of services in Kepri, emphasizing its transparency, which allows applicants to monitor their requests, reducing the chances of corrupt practices.

Digital services not only bring about transparency but also reduce the time and budget typically used in conventional services.

A significant challenge remains in fully implementing digital services across Kepri due to inadequate support infrastructures. Calls have been made to bolster the province’s telecommunication infrastructure to address this gap.

Abdullah Azwar Anas, the Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, stressed the need for transparency in the recruitment of civil servants, mentioning the implementation of a transparent and credible system.

A focus on appreciating civil servants working in 3T regions (remote, frontier, and least developed areas) has been highlighted, offering faster promotion cycles compared to their urban counterparts.

With Kepri’s proximity to Singapore, this initiative to eradicate corruption and promote transparent bureaucracy signifies a more stable and trustworthy region for Singaporeans and international visitors. Transparent governance and digital advancements can lead to smoother business operations, tourism, and cross-border collaborations.

Kepulauan Riau (Kepri) Province in Indonesia sets the benchmark by transitioning into a digital era to promote transparent governance, aiming to become a corruption-free zone. This move is expected to enhance the region’s attractiveness and trustworthiness, benefiting neighboring countries like Singapore and the broader international community.
