New AI-powered tools aim to make Singapore’s top attraction more accessible by 2026

Gardens by the Bay is set to introduce robot guide dogs and AI-powered tools to help visually impaired visitors explore its iconic Flower Dome independently.

Robot Guide Dogs Coming in 2026
Gardens by the Bay will roll out a free robot guide dog service at the Flower Dome by the third quarter of 2026. Developed by local company RoamAssist, the device is designed to guide visually impaired visitors safely through the attraction while offering audio descriptions of key highlights along the way.

How the Technology Works
The robot guide dog is programmed with the full layout of the Flower Dome, allowing it to lead users to different sections while avoiding obstacles in real time. As visitors move through the space, the device provides spoken guidance and helps them engage with tactile guidebooks, making the experience both interactive and informative without needing a human guide.

AI Headset to Enhance Experience
In addition to the robot guide dog, an AI-powered headset by local start-up AiSee is currently in development, with testing expected to begin in 2027. The headset will allow users to identify plants simply by using voice commands. It captures images, processes them through cloud-based AI, and delivers descriptions back through audio, offering a more immersive and self-directed experience.

Sensory Map for Autism-Friendly Visits
To further improve accessibility, Gardens by the Bay will introduce an online sensory map from June. Developed together with St Andrew’s Autism Centre, the map will help visitors understand the sensory environment of different areas in advance, including factors like noise, lighting, and smell, allowing for better planning and a more comfortable visit.

Supporting a More Inclusive Singapore
These initiatives support Singapore’s Enabling Masterplan 2030, which aims to create a more inclusive society for persons with disabilities. Gardens by the Bay is also positioning itself as a test bed for accessibility innovation, enabling local companies to develop and refine solutions that could be applied across other public spaces.

Real Impact for Users

Early trials have already demonstrated the potential of these technologies. Visually impaired users reported being able to navigate the Flower Dome more independently and confidently. Beyond the Gardens, there is also hope that such innovations could eventually support everyday activities like commuting or navigating urban environments.

By combining nature with cutting-edge technology, Gardens by the Bay is setting a new standard for inclusive design—showing how public spaces can empower individuals to explore with independence and confidence.
