A short circuit is suspected to have triggered a warehouse fire at Indofood’s Batam facility.
A fire broke out at the Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur warehouse in Batam’s Cammo Industrial Park on July 7, 2025. No casualties were reported, but the incident caused material damage and triggered widespread concern about industrial safety standards.
Fire Ignites Panic at Cammo Industrial Park
On Monday afternoon, July 7, 2025, a large fire erupted at a warehouse in Cammo Industrial Park, Batam Kota, leased by PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk. The fire was first reported around 11:10 AM WIB, sending thick black smoke billowing across the sky. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as employees rushed out of the burning facility.
A worker named Iki stated that the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit: “There was a shorted cable, bang. That’s what made the fire grow so fast.” Social media footage confirmed large flames, electrical sparks, and audible small explosions, suggesting the fire intensified rapidly after the initial short circuit.
Fast Emergency Response Prevents Escalation
Batam’s Fire and Rescue team responded swiftly. According to Apri, Commander of the BP Batam Fire Unit, the alert was received at 11:00 AM and firefighters arrived at the scene by 11:30 AM. “It only took us 10 minutes to contain the fire,” Apri said. Two fire trucks were deployed to combat the blaze, followed by cooling and monitoring operations to prevent reignition.

Meanwhile, Kompol Anak Agung Made Winarta, Chief of Batam Kota Police, confirmed no fatalities. “The fire was spotted in one of the rooms by workers. Based on early investigations, it likely started due to an electrical short that ignited a nearby banner,” he explained.
Authorities Launch Joint Investigation
Both BP Batam’s fire unit and Batam Kota Police are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire. Initial assessments align on faulty wiring as the likely source. Observations continue at the site to eliminate any residual risks and document damages.

Police have urged companies and the public to remain vigilant regarding electrical safety. “Always observe fire safety protocols, especially with electricity,” Kompol Agung emphasized, pointing to the speed at which the blaze spread.
Public Safety Reminder Amid Growing Industrial Risks
Though no lives were lost, the fire has renewed calls for stricter fire prevention measures in industrial zones. Indofood CBP is one of Indonesia’s largest consumer goods companies, and an incident of this nature raises alarms about facility safety checks, especially in leased properties.
The Cammo Industrial Park hosts several manufacturing and logistics firms, making infrastructure safety a top priority. This fire is now a case study for improving emergency preparedness and fire mitigation protocols across Batam and other industrial hubs.
