Residents planning overseas travel at the end of the year should apply for passports now to avoid upcoming fee increases in Batam. Starting December 17, 2024, passport issuance fees will rise across both standard and e-passports, with the changes aimed at supporting service quality improvements and longer passport validity.

The Batam Immigration Office has announced an increase in passport fees, effective December 17, 2024. This revision applies to all passport types and is part of a national initiative to enhance service efficiency and address rising administrative costs. Current rates will remain in effect until that date, providing an opportunity for residents to apply at lower rates.

Head of the Immigration Information and Communication Section at Batam’s Immigration Office, Kharisma Rukmana, confirmed the impending fee adjustments, which are aligned with Government Regulation No. 45 of 2024. “The new rates will officially be implemented starting on December 17, 2024,” Kharisma stated, explaining the government’s commitment to improving immigration service quality and offering longer validity options for passports.

The revised pricing structure introduces options that provide either five- or ten-year passport validity. According to the new rates, a standard non-electronic passport valid for five years will cost IDR 350,000 (approx. SGD 30), while a ten-year version will be IDR 650,000 (approx. SGD 55). For e-passports, fees will range from IDR 650,000 (approx. SGD 55) for a five-year passport to IDR 950,000 (approx. SGD 80) for a ten-year passport.

The decision to implement a fee adjustment was reached after a two-year trial of extended ten-year passports, which highlighted the need for adjusted rates to support the government’s operational and infrastructure costs. The updated fees aim to maintain service quality and meet increased demand from travelers opting for longer passport validity.

Residents planning international travel are encouraged to submit their applications early to benefit from current rates and avoid potential processing delays. The Immigration Office continues to coordinate with the Department of Communication and Information to ensure efficient service as demand rises, especially with the introduction of digital processing options.

Although the Batam Immigration Office has yet to see an increase in applications ahead of the fee hike, officials advise residents to plan their applications in advance, considering the passport supply is subject to online registration quotas. The Immigration Office assures residents that supplies remain steady and are adjusted according to demand.

This fee revision underscores the government’s focus on enhancing immigration services and extending passport validity. Singaporean and international travelers planning to obtain or renew their Indonesian passports should prepare for the upcoming changes, as the new rates and options will support streamlined services and longer-lasting documentation.

As Batam prepares to increase passport fees by December 17, residents are encouraged to apply under the current rates. Adjusted fees aim to support extended passport validity and service improvements, providing travelers with longer-term document options.
