During a 2023 bilateral meeting, Indonesian President Joko Widodo presented investment opportunities worth USD 2.6 billion in Indonesia’s new capital, IKN Nusantara, to Singaporean investors, fostering substantial economic engagements.
Early in 2022, both leaders reached important agreements including an extradition treaty, a deal on Flight Information Region (FIR) management, and a joint statement on defense cooperation, which underscore the nations’ commitments to enhance their legal and security frameworks.
The nations have focused on strengthening human capital through initiatives like the MoU on Human Capital Partnership Arrangement. This initiative aims to boost research collaboration, institutional strengthening, and student exchanges, fortifying Indonesia’s ‘Kampus Merdeka’ concept.
With the signing of the FIR agreement, Jakarta’s FIR now encompasses all territorial airspace of Indonesia, particularly around the Riau Islands and Natuna, enhancing the safety and security of the regions.
