UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta has temporarily removed a lecturer from all academic duties after receiving a report of alleged sexual violence, pledging victim-centred handling and zero tolerance for abuse of power on campus.

UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta confirmed that its Prevention and Handling Task Force for Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT) has received a report of alleged sexual violence involving a university lecturer as the reported party. The case is now being processed under established procedures that prioritise protection of the complainant or victim, strict confidentiality of identities, and careful, objective and professional examination of all information and evidence.

Lecturer Temporarily Removed Under New National Regulation
In line with Permendikbudristek No. 55 of 2024 on the prevention and handling of violence in higher education, the university has imposed preventive and administrative measures by temporarily deactivating the alleged perpetrator from all Tridharma activities – teaching, research and community service – while the investigation is ongoing. This step is formalised in Rector’s Decree No. 1531/UN62/TP/KEP/2026 dated May 19, 2026. The university stressed that the suspension will not disrupt teaching and learning processes, as academic arrangements have been adjusted to maintain continuity.

Satgas: Victim-Centred, Objective Investigation
Satgas PPKPT chair Dr Iva Rachmawati said the decision reflects the university’s commitment to maintaining a sense of safety for all members of the academic community and to supporting an objective, professional inquiry. “The task force is conducting tracing and investigation objectively and professionally, based on the principle of victim protection. Every piece of information and evidence received will be followed up according to applicable mechanisms,” she said. The process is designed to avoid intimidation, prevent secondary victimisation and ensure that any findings can stand up to legal and institutional scrutiny.
