Police say arrest of Cambodia-linked online scam operator reflects tougher cross-border cybercrime push.

Indonesian police have arrested an Interpol red notice fugitive, identified as LCS, at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport over his alleged role in a cross-border online fraud ring based out of Cambodia.

Arrest Of A Red-Notice Fugitive
The National Police confirmed that Indonesian national LCS, wanted on an Interpol red notice, was arrested on Sunday, May 3, at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. He had also been listed on the Domestic Wanted Persons register of the Cyber Crime Directorate (Dittipidsiber) as a suspect in an international online fraud case.

Centralised Handling Of Nationwide Reports
Police records show 23 reports linked to the alleged scam were filed from various regions across Indonesia. All have been consolidated under Dittipidsiber Bareskrim to streamline investigation and case preparation, ensuring a unified approach to evidence gathering and prosecution.

Role In Abbishopee Scam Network
Preliminary investigations indicate LCS acted as an operator for an online fraud scheme using a platform called “abbishopee,” which is believed to be part of a wider international network operating out of Cambodia. Authorities say they will continue to develop the case to fully map the structure and methods of the syndicate.

Cross-Border Cooperation And Further Arrests
Cyber Crime Director Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji said the arrest was the result of international coordination and reflects the police’s commitment to cracking down on cybercriminals who harm the wider public. He added that three other suspects linked to LCS’s network have already been arrested, prosecuted, and sentenced by the South Jakarta District Court.

Tracing Money Flows And Victim Restitution
Investigators are now focusing on uncovering the full international network and tracing the flow of illicit funds to support asset recovery for victims. LCS is currently undergoing examination at Bareskrim headquarters as police seek to identify additional collaborators and secure financial evidence that could be used for compensation and further charges.

The capture of LCS illustrates how Indonesian authorities are stepping up cross-border cooperation to pursue online fraudsters operating from overseas hubs. For Indonesians and Singaporeans who are frequent digital shoppers, the case highlights the need for vigilance against fake platforms and underscores that regional law enforcement is increasingly willing to chase cybercriminals across borders to protect consumers and recover stolen funds.
