Government urges public to avoid panic buying as reserves exceed safety thresholds

Indonesia has reassured the public that fuel and electricity supplies are sufficient ahead of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday, amid concerns over rising demand during the festive period.

Fuel Reserves Above Safety Threshold
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) confirmed that Indonesia’s fuel reserves currently stand at 27 to 28 days, exceeding the government’s minimum requirement. This buffer is expected to comfortably support increased demand during the Eid holiday period.

Officials emphasised that the supply is secure nationwide, allowing the public to travel and celebrate without concerns over fuel shortages.

Public Urged to Avoid Panic Buying
Deputy Minister Yuliot Tanjung called on citizens to remain calm and avoid excessive fuel purchases. He stressed that there are no restrictions on fuel distribution at both national and regional levels.

The government also encouraged orderly behaviour at petrol stations, especially during peak travel periods, to prevent unnecessary disruptions.

Electricity Supply Remains Strong
In addition to fuel, Indonesia’s electricity supply is also in a stable condition. The country has an installed capacity of around 52 gigawatts, ensuring it can meet rising energy demands.

This capacity provides a strong foundation for maintaining uninterrupted power throughout the holiday season.

Comfortable Reserve Margin in Power System
With an estimated peak load of 35 gigawatts, Indonesia still maintains a reserve margin of about 48 per cent. This surplus acts as a safety buffer to handle fluctuations in demand.

Authorities said this margin is more than sufficient to ensure reliability, even during periods of heightened consumption.

Government Ensures Smooth Holiday Operations
The government has taken proactive steps to guarantee stable energy supply during Eid, recognising the importance of transportation and electricity during the festive period.

These assurances are aimed at maintaining public confidence while preventing unnecessary panic that could strain the system.

With strong reserves and careful planning, Indonesia appears well-prepared to manage energy demands during Eid 2026, reinforcing stability amid broader global uncertainties.
