Student liaison officers in Cairo and Jeddah providing guidance amid regional conflict
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) said it is closely monitoring the escalating conflict in the Middle East and is prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of Singaporean students in the region.
MUIS Prioritizes Student Safety
MUIS said on March 2 that the safety and wellbeing of Singaporean students in the Middle East remain its top priority. The council emphasized that every effort is being made to support and care for them during the ongoing tensions.
The statement comes as US and Israeli military operations on Iran entered their third day, with Iranian authorities reporting at least 555 deaths since Saturday.
Liaison Officers Providing Support
Student liaison officers based in Cairo, Egypt, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, are working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ overseas missions. They are maintaining regular contact with students in Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
MUIS said the officers have been offering support and guidance to students during what it described as “uncertain times.”
Parents Encouraged to Reach Out
Parents and guardians with concerns can contact MUIS directly at 6359-1199 or via email at info@muis.gov.sg
for further information.
The council also urged families to stay calm and rely on official updates as the situation continues to develop.
Travel Advisory Issued
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory advising Singaporeans to avoid transit through affected parts of the region.
Following the Feb. 28 Israeli-US strikes on Iran, blasts have been reported across several Middle Eastern countries, including Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, as well as at Dubai International Airport in the UAE.
Call for Prayers and Peace
MUIS called on the community to pray for the safety of students and Singaporeans in the Middle East.
“Let us continue to pray for the safety of our students and fellow Singaporeans, and for peace to return to the Middle East and all troubled regions of the world,” the council said.
As regional tensions continue to unfold, MUIS and Singapore’s overseas missions are maintaining close coordination to ensure students remain supported. Authorities are urging calm, vigilance and reliance on official channels for updates.
