Police uncover online-promoted abortion ring posing as licensed clinics since 2022
What appeared to be professional medical services online turned out to be a carefully disguised illegal operation hidden inside a Jakarta apartment.
Online Clinics Used as a Front
The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of Jakarta Police, known as Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya, has uncovered an illegal abortion practice operating from an apartment on Jalan Jenderal Basuki Rahmat in East Jakarta. The operation was promoted through two websites using the names Klinik Aborsi Promedis and Klinik Aborsi Raden Saleh, giving the false impression of licensed and professional medical services.
Tip-Off Led to November Investigation
According to Ditreskrimsus Director Kombes Pol Edy Suranta Sitepu, the case was exposed following public reports received in November 2025. Police investigations traced the operation to a single apartment unit, where abortions were carried out after patients were recruited through the websites and redirected to communicate via WhatsApp.
Structured Process and High Fees
Prospective patients were required to submit ultrasound results, copies of their national identity cards, and await further instructions regarding meeting points, schedules, and pickup locations. The cost for each abortion ranged from Rp5 million to Rp8 million, depending on the pregnancy stage and arrangement, police said during a press conference on December 17, 2025.

Fake Doctor as Main Executor
One of the key suspects, a woman identified as NS, claimed to be an obstetrician and gynecologist and acted as the abortion executor. Police later confirmed that NS was not a licensed doctor and had no medical education. She reportedly received Rp1.7 million for each procedure performed.
Seven Suspects Arrested
Authorities have named seven suspects in total. They include NS as executor, RH as an assistant, and M who served as admin and patient pickup coordinator. Two women, KWM and R, were identified as patients, while two men, LN and YH, handled apartment rental logistics and website administration.
Hundreds of Alleged Patients Under Review
Police seized digital records from the admin’s mobile phone containing 361 names suspected to be patients. While suspects claimed the list represented abortion clients, authorities are still verifying the data by summoning individuals listed in the database for confirmation.
Majority of Patients Were Unmarried
Preliminary findings suggest most patients sought abortions due to unwanted pregnancies or pregnancies outside marriage. Kombes Edy emphasized that investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of legal violations and potential health risks caused by the unregulated procedures.
The case highlights growing risks tied to online medical fraud and illegal health services in Indonesia’s urban centers. Beyond criminal accountability, the operation raises broader concerns around public health, digital deception, and cross-border awareness, particularly as Indonesians and Singaporeans increasingly rely on online platforms for sensitive services.
