Indonesia’s young rafters delivered a breakthrough performance on the global stage, securing multiple podium finishes at the 2025 World Rafting Championship in Malaysia. Their success not only strengthens Indonesia’s standing in international rafting but also highlights the depth of talent emerging from regions like South Ogan Komering Ulu.

The 2025 World Rafting Championship in Kuala Lumpur saw Indonesia’s junior athletes shine. The junior women’s team from the Indonesian Rafting Federation South OKU captured gold in the sprint and silver in the head-to-head category on the first day. Their performance set a new national record and reaffirmed South OKU’s role as a powerhouse for whitewater rafting talent.
Regional Strength on the World Stage
FAJI South OKU chairman Didi Indawan noted that this success reflects years of consistent development. The five athletes selected for the championship had previously excelled at national events, earning their place to represent Indonesia at the world level. Their achievement brought pride to both South Sumatra and the wider sporting community.

At Sungai Kampar, the Indonesian national anthem played triumphantly as the junior men’s team claimed gold after a hard fought final against Malaysia. The squad secured victory with a 16-point lead, underscoring their technical strength and composure under pressure.

Beyond the men’s gold medal, Indonesia’s junior women secured additional podium finishes. Indonesia 1 earned silver with 184 points, and Indonesia 2 clinched bronze with 172 points, trailing the Czech Republic 1 team. In the youth women’s division, both Indonesian teams also captured bronze, while the United States dominated with a perfect score of 200.

Indonesia continued its medal run in the open women’s category with a bronze finish at 172 points. Their performance placed them ahead of Malaysia, while Great Britain 1 claimed the top spot.

Amalia Yunita, Vice Chairperson of PB FAJI, praised the athletes and emphasized the importance of regeneration within the national rafting program. She stated that Indonesia is now more respected globally, especially in youth and junior divisions. With momentum building, the teams are shifting focus toward the upcoming slalom event, where strategic precision will be critical.
