Batam intensifies inflation control and digitalization efforts to stabilize prices before the 2025 festive season.
Batam is tightening its economic safeguards as the year-end festive season draws near. With rising demand expected during Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026, the city government and Bank Indonesia are accelerating coordinated efforts to keep inflation stable while pushing forward digital transformation across public services.
Strengthening Batam’s Price Stability Strategy
Batam City Regional Secretary Firmansyah officially opened the joint TPID and TP2DD strategic meeting on December 4, 2025 at the Bank Indonesia building in Batam Center. Hosted by BI Kepri in collaboration with the Batam City Government, the forum gathered regional officials, business representatives, financial institutions, and BI leadership to evaluate inflation control measures and advance digitalization ahead of the high-demand Nataru period.
During his remarks, Firmansyah emphasized that safeguarding public purchasing power remains the city’s primary focus. He highlighted how seasonal demand for essential goods and services could fuel price pressures if not managed properly. He stressed the importance of strengthening supply availability, stabilizing food prices, and ensuring smooth distribution across Batam.
Inflation Trends and Key Contributors
Bank Indonesia presented Batam’s inflation developments throughout 2025. November data showed transportation contributing the largest share at 0.30 percent, driven mainly by higher air travel costs. This trend reinforces the need for stronger coordination among agencies to anticipate volatility in transport and logistics as holiday travel increases.
Accelerating Digital Transformation Through TP2DD
Beyond inflation, Firmansyah underscored digitalization as an essential pillar of Batam’s long-term competitiveness. He reiterated that digital transformation is no longer optional, especially for improving public service efficiency and transparency. Through TP2DD, Batam aims to accelerate digital payments, licensing systems, and government transactions to enhance accuracy, accessibility, and user experience.
Collaboration and Innovation Take Center Stage
Participants in the discussion session shared insights on improving inter-agency coordination, enhancing food price mitigation, and leveraging digital tools to support real-time monitoring of supply and demand conditions. Stakeholders agreed that technology-driven solutions will be increasingly important for effective inflation management.
A Shared Commitment to a Stronger Batam
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to maintain economic stability while strengthening Batam’s digital ecosystem. For a city positioning itself as a regional economic hub, effective inflation control and rapid digital adoption will be critical to ensuring resilience and competitiveness in the coming years.
The strengthened synergy between Batam’s government, Bank Indonesia, and private sector stakeholders reflects a broader push to ensure economic stability while preparing for future growth. These coordinated efforts provide a more resilient foundation for communities and businesses across both Indonesia and Singapore, especially as cross-border economic activity continues to rise.
