Singapore launches major three-year initiative to strengthen film and television talent across global markets.
Singapore has taken a bold step to elevate its creative sector with a massive investment aimed at reshaping the future of film and television. The new Talent Accelerator Program will equip local creators with world-class support, global partnerships, and expanded co-production opportunities.
A Strategic Investment in Creative Talent
The Infocomm Media Development Authority has launched a three-year initiative worth SGD200 million (approx. 154 million USD) to position Singapore as a leading regional hub for film and television co-production. Announced at the Asia TV Forum and Market, the program seeks to equip local talent for a rapidly evolving global media landscape shaped by artificial intelligence and shifting content consumption habits.
Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How emphasized that the government aims to ensure Made-with-Singapore content can stand out amid rising international competition. He stated that the investment represents a commitment to building a pipeline of globally appealing stories and strengthening Singapore’s reputation as a trusted creative partner.
Structured Pathways From Development to Global Distribution
The Talent Accelerator Program offers comprehensive support across all stages of a project’s lifecycle. In the development phase, IMDA will connect creators with commissioners, buyers, and mentors who specialize in story development, pitching, and contract negotiation. This includes direct access to international streamers, renowned production houses, and global distributors.
The production component will co-fund a range of projects, including scripted and unscripted series, films, and IP adaptations. This move is designed to stimulate both regional and worldwide collaborations.
Strengthening Global Reach Through Distribution
The final phase of the initiative focuses on scaling Singapore content internationally. IMDA will establish a dedicated marketing team to champion Singaporean productions and talent across global markets. Select projects will also receive additional marketing funds to support worldwide promotion.
Building an Ecosystem for Long-Term Creative Growth
IMDA assistant chief executive Yvonne Tang described the program as a new chapter in Singapore’s long-term strategy to cultivate a thriving film and television ecosystem. She noted that TAP is designed to transform how international partners view the country, shifting perceptions from a simple production base to a vital creative collaborator.
Tang highlighted the value of world-class mentorships, specialized masterclasses, and strategic partnerships that will expand opportunities for local creators.
Early Partnerships Signal Strong Industry Confidence
The announcement follows an unscripted content collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery, signaling major industry interest in Singapore’s growing creative sector. IMDA will release application details for the Talent Accelerator Program in the first quarter of 2026, giving filmmakers, producers, and media professionals time to prepare their submissions.
The Talent Accelerator Program marks a pivotal moment for Singapore’s creative industries. Its emphasis on development, production, and global distribution can open new opportunities not just for Singaporeans, but also for talent and partners across Indonesia and the broader region. The initiative reinforces Southeast Asia’s presence in the global content landscape and strengthens the region’s role as a hub for high-quality, culturally resonant storytelling.
