Indonesian Armed Forces conduct integrated combat readiness drills to secure the nation’s northern maritime border.
In a powerful display of defense preparedness, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) carried out an Integrated Combat Readiness Exercise (Uji Siap Tempur/UST) in Natuna, Riau Islands, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty across Indonesia’s northernmost maritime frontier.
Testing the Frontline Defenders
The integrated combat readiness exercise, organized by Komando Komposit 1/Gardapati Natuna, was held in Natuna Regency, Riau Islands, on October 29, 2025. The operation aimed to assess the capabilities, discipline, and coordination of TNI personnel in maintaining sovereignty over Indonesia’s northern border — a strategic region facing the South China Sea.
Leadership Presence Highlights National Commitment
The event was personally inspected by the Commander of the Indonesian Army Training and Education Command (Kodiklatad), Lieutenant General Mohamad Hasan. His presence underscored TNI’s top-level commitment to ensuring every unit remains combat-ready and professional in executing national defense duties. “This exercise proves TNI’s readiness to defend sovereignty in the Natuna border region,” Lt. Gen. Hasan emphasized.

Multi-Unit Integration for Realistic Combat Scenarios
The exercise integrated multiple combat units under Kodam XIX/Tuanku Tambusai, including Infantry, Artillery (Armed), Air Defense (Arhanud), and Engineering (Zeni) divisions. The main operators were soldiers from Batalyon Komposit 1/Gardapati, who carried out complex combat maneuvers simulating both defensive and offensive operations.
Air-Land Coordination Demonstrates Joint Force Strength
Raising the bar for inter-service coordination, the Commander of Raden Sadjad Air Base (Lanud RSA), Air Commodore Onesmus Gede Rai Aryadi, also participated in reviewing the training activities. The Air Force’s involvement reflected strong synergy between air and ground forces, reinforcing Indonesia’s integrated defense posture in the northern archipelago.
Civil-Military Cooperation Strengthened in Natuna
The readiness drill also drew local government support. The Deputy Regent of Natuna and Forkopimda officials attended the training review, showing joint commitment between military and civilian leadership to enhance regional security and preparedness in the face of emerging challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

Preparing for Larger-Scale Exercises
According to Major General Agus Hadi Waluyo, Commander of Kodam XIX/Tuanku Tambusai, this UST served as the final phase before the upcoming “Ancab” inter-branch exercise scheduled for November 2025. “This is our final readiness test before entering joint-branch operations,” he explained, stressing the importance of consistent training to build resilience and unified combat power.
The Natuna exercise demonstrates Indonesia’s unwavering resolve to protect its sovereignty and maritime borders. As regional dynamics intensify in the South China Sea, the TNI’s enhanced readiness not only reinforces national defense but also signals Indonesia’s active role in maintaining stability across the wider Southeast Asian region — an assurance valued by both Indonesians and neighboring partners like Singapore.
