Police uncover 11 meth packages disguised in romantic heart-shaped containers during a late-night raid in Baloi Center, Batam.

A seemingly harmless pair of pink heart-shaped jars turned out to be the hiding spot for methamphetamine in Batam. Police arrested a 49-year-old suspect and his female companion after uncovering 11 packets of meth weighing over 8 grams during a raid in Baloi Center.

Romantic Disguise for a Dark Trade

Officers from the Sub-Directorate II of the Narcotics Investigation Unit (Ditresnarkoba) at Polda Kepulauan Riau (Kepri) were stunned when they found narcotics hidden inside two pink heart-shaped jars during a search at a rented room in Baloi Center, Lubuk Baja, on October 15, 2025. The containers, resembling candy jars or gifts, concealed 11 packets of methamphetamine weighing a total of 8.28 grams.

Police arrested the main suspect, identified as Very Andian (49), along with a woman found at the scene. “The suspect used heart-shaped containers to deceive both the public and officers. It appeared like a harmless decoration,” said AKBP Ruslaeni, head of Subdit II Ditresnarkoba, on October 22, 2025.

Operation Triggered by Public Tip

The arrest followed a public tip-off earlier that evening. Acting on the information, police conducted surveillance and launched a raid around 9 p.m., successfully apprehending the suspect inside his rented room. “This operation shows how vital community cooperation is in fighting drug circulation,” Ruslaeni emphasized.

Officers also seized a digital scale, two bongs, and two mobile phones believed to be used for drug transactions. All evidence was taken to the Polda Kepri headquarters for further investigation.

The Heart Jar Modus: A New Tactic

According to investigators, hiding meth in romantic-looking containers was a new modus operandi aimed at disguising illegal drugs as harmless items. “We suspect this was not the first time. The packaging and storage were carefully arranged, showing the suspect’s experience in the trade,” Ruslaeni explained.

The suspect admitted to storing the drugs while waiting for orders from regular customers across Batam. He also revealed that the meth belonged to another individual who remains at large and is currently being hunted by authorities.

Expanding the Investigation

Police are now tracing the upstream network supplying meth to the suspect. Preliminary findings suggest the existence of a broader distribution chain within Batam. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the supplier and possible accomplices.

Ruslaeni reaffirmed the police’s commitment to dismantling narcotics syndicates in Kepri. “We are developing this case further and will continue to pursue anyone linked to the distribution,” he stated.

Heavy Penalties Await

The suspects are being charged under Articles 112(2) and 114(2) of Indonesia’s Law No. 35/2009 on Narcotics, which carry a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of life imprisonment — or even the death penalty in severe cases.

“This arrest sends a strong message: there is no room for drug dealers in Kepri. Whoever they are, we will act firmly,” Ruslaeni declared.

The Batam narcotics raid reveals how drug syndicates continue to innovate in hiding illicit substances — even using symbols of love as cover. Thanks to swift police action and community vigilance, authorities have disrupted yet another link in Kepri’s drug trade, reinforcing the region’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics.
