Neighbour’s report of leaking fluids leads to grim discovery inside Sengkang HDB flat.
A neighbour’s complaint about foul, red fluid dripping from her ceiling led police to a tragic discovery: a man and his 47-year-old daughter dead inside their Sengkang HDB unit on Monday, Oct 6.
What Happened
Police were alerted at 1:35pm on Oct 6 to an unnatural death at Block 324D Sengkang East Way. Responding officers found a man (age not disclosed) and a 47-year-old woman motionless in the flat; both were pronounced dead at the scene. The woman—identified by police as Xu Na—was discovered in the living room near the main door, while the man was found in a bedroom in a severely decomposed state. Investigations are ongoing.
Discovery Triggered By Ceiling Leak
Hours before the call, an elderly resident living directly below noticed a pungent, red, sticky liquid leaking from her ceiling. Her son, Mr Zeng (transliteration), arrived around 9:00am to help clean up but later contacted police as the smell worsened. Authorities subsequently cordoned off the corridor and began scene processing.

A Reclusive Household
Neighbours told local media that the pair kept to themselves and had not been seen for weeks. One resident last saw the father in July, and the daughter around Chinese New Year. Several neighbours reported a persistent odour over the past month, and said authorities had earlier distributed flyers asking if anyone noticed unusual smells.
Reports Of Mental Health Concerns
Multiple residents described the daughter as appearing mentally unwell, occasionally talking or laughing to herself, avoiding others in lifts, and sometimes singing or clapping near the elevator. These are neighbour accounts and not official medical assessments, but they highlight the complex social and health factors that can isolate households.
Police Appeal And Next Steps
The Singapore Police Force is appealing for next of kin of Xu Na to come forward. Anyone with information can call 1800-255-0000 or submit details via police.gov.sg/i-witness. The case remains classified as an unnatural death pending investigations and formal identification of the male deceased.

Community Vigilance And Estate Safety
This case underscores the importance of neighbour vigilance, routine welfare checks, and prompt reporting of unusual odours or leaks—especially when residents are seldom seen. Estate managers and communities can help by maintaining clear reporting channels and encouraging check-ins with vulnerable or reclusive neighbours.
The Sengkang tragedy is a sobering reminder of the hidden crises that can unfold behind closed doors. For residents across Singapore, timely reporting and neighbourly check-ins can save lives, while authorities’ quick responses help safeguard community health and safety.
