Region ranked with London-Dublin and Virginia-Pennsylvania as key emerging AI infrastructure hubs.

The Singapore-Johor corridor has been named one of the world’s top three emerging artificial intelligence (AI) “PowerHubs,” alongside London-Dublin and Virginia-Pennsylvania, according to the inaugural Global Data Centre Report 2025 by Digital Infrastructure Collective Asia.

Asia’s Fastest-Growing Data Centre Region

The report identifies Asia Pacific as the fastest-growing data centre market worldwide, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.3% from 2019 to 2024. This outpaces the Americas at 18.8% and Europe at 13.3%, underscoring the region’s accelerating role in digital infrastructure.

Capacity Growth in the Corridor

Singapore currently operates over 1,000 megawatts (MW) of data centre capacity, while Johor has surged from just 10MW in 2021 to more than 1,500MW by 2024. Enabled by Johor’s “Green Lane Pathway” — which shortens build timelines to 12–14 months — the corridor is projected to surpass 3,500MW by 2030.

Strategic Foundations for AI

The Singapore-Johor nexus has been spotlighted for its critical enablers: energy availability, regulatory support, semiconductor ecosystems, connectivity, and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). The report emphasizes that sustainable AI infrastructure depends not only on raw capacity but also on these enabling factors.

Hyperscaler Speed-to-Market

For hyperscale data centre development, speed-to-market is shaped by grid readiness and regulatory efficiency, particularly in renewable energy. The corridor’s ability to integrate these elements positions it as a competitive anchor for AI power in Asia.

Expert Perspectives

Tim Lin, co-founder and partner at Digital Infrastructure Collective Asia, highlighted the corridor’s complementary strengths. “Identifying where AI power will concentrate is about more than capacity; it requires understanding the intersection of technology, energy, and geopolitics,” he said.

The recognition of the Singapore-Johor corridor as an emerging AI hub reflects Southeast Asia’s growing influence in the global digital economy. With strong infrastructure, supportive policies, and a regional partnership strategy, the corridor is well-positioned to serve as Asia’s anchor for AI-driven innovation and growth, shaping future technology ecosystems across the region.
