BP Batam chief emphasizes deeper ties with Singapore to boost regional opportunities
Batam is strengthening its partnership with Singapore, as BP Batam Chairman Amsakar Achmad reaffirmed the city’s commitment to collaboration that drives investment and economic growth for both regions.
Batam and Singapore: More Than Neighbors
During a working visit to Singapore on September 29, 2025, Amsakar Achmad met with Gavin Ang, Singapore’s Consul General in Batam, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties. He described Singapore not only as a reliable partner but also as a close friend that has consistently contributed to Batam’s investment inflows.
Investment Milestones
According to official data, realized investment from Singapore into Batam reached Rp7.9 trillion (S$632 million) in the first half of 2025. Amsakar highlighted that such contributions underline the importance of continued collaboration to support the island’s rapid development.
Expanding Future Collaboration
Looking ahead, Amsakar believes Batam and Singapore can broaden cooperation across multiple sectors. With strong infrastructure and skilled human resources, Batam is well-positioned to welcome new opportunities in strategic industries beyond manufacturing, logistics, and trade.

Regional and Diplomatic Support
Amsakar also emphasized the significance of President Joko Widodo’s recent visit to Singapore as a sign of Indonesia’s commitment to the partnership. “We want this strong relationship to continue for the progress and shared prosperity of both nations,” he said.
Shared Optimism
Echoing this sentiment, Consul General Gavin Ang described Batam as a strategic partner for Singapore. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Amsakar Achmad and Li Claudia Chandra, bilateral cooperation will grow even stronger. “May this synergy continue to benefit us all,” he said.

Delegation in Attendance
Amsakar was accompanied by Deputy Head of BP Batam Li Claudia Chandra, Deputy for Public Services Ariastuty Sirait, Pikori BP Batam Chair Erlita Sari Amsakar, and General Bureau Head M. Taofan, underscoring the importance of the meeting at an institutional level.
The reaffirmed partnership between Batam and Singapore highlights the growing role of cross-border collaboration in driving investment and regional development. With shared commitments from both sides, the relationship is set to deliver wider economic opportunities not only for Batam and Singapore but also for the broader ASEAN region.
