Police uncover grisly mutilation case in Mojokerto; family and villagers in Lamongan bid farewell to victim

The brutal murder of Tiara Angelina Saraswati (25) has shocked East Java, after police revealed she was killed and mutilated by her boyfriend, Alvi Maulana (24). As forensic teams examined over 300 body fragments, her grieving family and community in Lamongan laid her to rest.

Murder And Arrest

Police said Alvi stabbed Tiara in the neck during an argument at their rented house in Surabaya on August 30. He then mutilated her body using a knife, pruning shears, and a hammer. Body parts were dumped across Mojokerto’s Pacet area, with others hidden inside the couple’s lodging.

Alvi, who resisted arrest, was captured in Surabaya on September 7 after a manhunt. Mojokerto police confirmed he faces premeditated murder charges under Article 340 of the Criminal Code, which carries the death penalty.

Forensic Findings

Forensic experts at RS Bhayangkara Porong received more than 310 pieces of remains, including bones, flesh, and teeth. Not all parts have been recovered, with DNA testing underway to confirm identifications. Evidence suggests Tiara endured both sharp- and blunt-force injuries.

Discovery Of The Body

The crime came to light on September 6, when a villager in Mojokerto’s Pacet district found human remains while collecting grass. Police later identified them as Tiara’s, using fingerprints and a police dog unit.

A Community In Mourning

On September 9, Tiara’s remains were returned to her hometown of Made, Lamongan. Hundreds of residents attended prayers at the local mosque before her burial at the village cemetery. Head of Made village, Eko Widianto, expressed condolences, thanking police and medical staff for their swift response.

He urged parents and communities to pay closer attention to young people’s struggles: “This tragedy should be a lesson for us all, to provide guidance, support, and protection when our children face difficulties.”

Victim’s Background

Born in Pacitan in 2000, Tiara was the eldest of two siblings. She graduated from SMA Negeri 1 Lamongan in 2018 before studying Management at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura. Friends and family remember her as hardworking and kind.

Legal And Social Implications

Police confirmed Alvi acted alone. He admitted long-standing resentment had triggered the killing, but gave no clear reason for the mutilation. The case has reignited public debate on domestic violence, youth relationships, and mental health awareness in Indonesia.

The murder of Tiara Angelina Saraswati stands as one of East Java’s most shocking crimes in recent years. As her family and community mourn her loss, attention now shifts to the trial of Alvi Maulana and the broader societal lessons on safeguarding vulnerable young people.
