A boy suffered fatal internal injuries after a motorcycle crash; father ignored hospital advice.
A 12-year-old boy in Johor Bahru tragically died at home eight hours after a motorcycle accident, following his father’s refusal to admit him to a hospital despite a clinic referral.
Fatal Mistake: Ignoring Medical Advice
On Monday, August 4, a 12-year-old student from Sekolah Kebangsaan Tiram Duku was involved in a self-inflicted motorcycle accident in Paloh, Kluang District, Johor. He had taken his uncle’s motorcycle without a license to buy groceries but lost control, skidding into a roadside barrier.
Instead of taking him directly to the hospital, his father brought him to two private clinics. One clinic referred him to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) in Johor Bahru due to his internal injuries. Shockingly, the father chose not to follow the medical advice.
Eight Hours of Silent Suffering
Despite signs of internal abdominal trauma, the father brought the injured boy home. By 9pm the same day, the child had succumbed to his injuries at their residence in Johor Bahru. Authorities were only notified of the boy’s death around 2am the following morning, when the father finally lodged a police report.
Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh confirmed that the child’s death was caused by internal abdominal injuries, based on subsequent medical examination.
No License, No Helmet, No Hospital
The boy was reportedly riding without a license and unaccompanied—already a serious offense under Malaysian law. However, the father’s refusal to seek timely hospital treatment despite a clear referral has drawn widespread concern and public outrage.

The child’s fatal injuries could potentially have been treated had he been taken to HSA promptly. The delay proved fatal.
Ongoing Investigation Under Road Transport Act
The case is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless driving causing death. While the child was the one riding the motorcycle, accountability may also rest on the adults who enabled and neglected him in his time of need.
A Wake-Up Call for Parental Responsibility
This tragic incident underscores the need for stronger parental accountability and better public awareness around post-accident medical care. It also highlights the risks of allowing underage, unlicensed riders on public roads.
The boy’s death has sparked conversations not just in Malaysia, but also in neighbouring Singapore and Indonesia, where many are questioning how such neglect could happen in 2025.
This heartbreaking case serves as a warning about the consequences of ignoring medical advice and allowing underage children to operate vehicles. As cross-border communities between Johor, Batam, and Singapore continue to grow more connected, tragedies like this must lead to actionable change—both at the household level and in public policy.
