But for Chang, her participation in the July 9 attempt ended painfully. In a video she shared on Instagram, she revealed that the forceful hug — meant to lift her off the ground — caused injury to her seventh, eighth, and ninth anterior ribs, with a confirmed fracture on her eighth rib.
No Planning, Just Impact
Chang admitted the injury occurred because she and the male participant — a local “actor” — failed to communicate properly about how the stunt would be executed. Weighing 55kg, she was unexpectedly lifted with one arm, leading to severe strain and impact on her ribs.
“It sounds romantic, but I ended up at Raffles Hospital in Chongqing for a CT scan the next day,” she said. She spent around 900 yuan (S$160) on medical bills and was diagnosed with a fractured rib requiring bandaging and rest.

Describing the experience as “a lesson learnt,” Chang warned others to approach such trends with caution. While she acknowledged the fun aspect of the video, she emphasized the lack of safety and medical insurance during filming.
