Nightly road closure from 10pm to 5am will affect traffic flow near CIQ Complex and R&F Mall

A key road in Johor Bahru will be closed nightly until mid-July to accommodate ongoing works for the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project connecting Malaysia and Singapore.

Nightly Closures for RTS Link Works

Motorists in Johor Bahru are advised to plan ahead as Jalan Ismail Sultan, heading towards Stulang, will be fully closed nightly from 10pm to 5am until July 16. The closure supports critical construction works under the RTS Link project, a major transport initiative enhancing connectivity between Johor and Singapore.

According to a Facebook post by RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO), the construction is expected to take approximately seven hours each night. The affected section lies just after the traffic light junction near the CIQ Complex and R&F Mall, close to GBW Hotel.

Traffic Management Measures in Place

To mitigate congestion during the closure, authorities will implement periodic contraflow lanes along Jalan Ismail Sultan, specifically towards the city centre. This arrangement allows vehicles from the CIQ and R&F Mall areas heading to Stulang to use the opposite lane as a temporary route.

Motorists are strongly urged to adhere to all traffic signboards and obey instructions from flagmen stationed at the site. These measures are critical to maintaining safety and minimizing traffic disruption.

RTSO Urges Public Cooperation

RTSO has emphasised that public cooperation is essential to ensure smooth progress on the RTS Link works. They also encourage road users to consult the official diversion route map, accessible via RTSO’s official Facebook page, for up-to-date navigation guidance.

The RTS Link, once completed, is expected to significantly improve cross-border transport between Johor and Singapore. This temporary disruption is a necessary step toward long-term mobility benefits for the region.

Strategic Infrastructure With Regional Impact

The RTS Link is a landmark infrastructure project aimed at reducing congestion at the Johor–Singapore Causeway and providing efficient rail transit for thousands of daily commuters. The current construction reflects the progress of this megaproject, bringing closer the vision of seamless bilateral transportation.

The project is seen as pivotal in boosting economic integration, easing labor mobility, and improving the quality of life for residents and workers across both nations.

While the nightly road closure at Jalan Ismail Sultan may pose temporary inconvenience, it underscores the advancing momentum of the RTS Link—an ambitious, long-term solution to chronic congestion issues. For both Malaysians and Singaporeans, this development signals progress toward faster, smoother, and more reliable cross-border travel.
