A devastating car accident in Lepar, Kuantan on June 17 claimed the lives of Jamal Azizul Samat, 44, and his wife Lizawati Abdullah, 41, leaving their three children orphaned. The collision occurred around 10pm near Batu 8, when their Proton Wira collided head-on with a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry.

Overtaking Maneuver Turns Fatal

A devastating car accident in Lepar, Kuantan on June 17 claimed the lives of Jamal Azizul Samat, 44, and his wife Lizawati Abdullah, 41, leaving their three children orphaned. The collision occurred around 10pm near Batu 8, when their Proton Wira collided head-on with a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry.

Initial investigations by Pekan police revealed that Jamal Azizul was attempting to overtake another vehicle while driving towards Segamat from Kuantan. He lost control of the car, which veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the oncoming lorry owned by Golden Green Farm. Both Jamal and Lizawati died on the spot due to severe injuries.

Children Survive With Injuries

The couple’s three children (two sons and a daughter, aged between six and 17) were in the car during the incident. All three sustained injuries to the head, face, and abdomen. They were rushed to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in Kuantan for treatment and are currently receiving medical care.

Lorry Driver Escapes Unharmed

The 31-year-old lorry driver, Logesvaran Kandan, escaped the crash without injuries. His two assistants, aged 24 and 37, suffered only minor injuries and were also treated at the same hospital. The remains of Jamal and Lizawati were sent to Pekan Hospital for a post-mortem scheduled the following morning.

Police Investigating Under Road Transport Act

Pekan police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise greater caution, especially during nighttime driving and overtaking maneuvers.
