Ten Social Services Officials Allegedly Assault Tissue Seller at Simpang Jam
A shocking incident at Simpang Jam, Batam, has sparked public outrage after a tissue seller was allegedly assaulted by ten officials from the Department of Social Affairs (Dinsos) on March 26, 2025. The incident, which took place in the early afternoon, has raised serious concerns about the actions of the local authorities.
The victim, Muhammad Abdullah, a well-known tissue seller in Batam, was reportedly attacked by ten Dinsos officials while selling tissues in the area. Abdullah, who had previously garnered attention for his unique skills with a wooden stick while selling tissues, found himself at the center of controversy when the attack occurred.
On March 26, 2025, at approximately 4:00 PM, Muhammad Abdullah, the tissue seller, was accosted by ten officials from the Dinsos while conducting his business at Simpang Jam. According to Abdullah’s statement, the officials approached him aggressively, and despite his efforts to resist, he was forcefully detained. Abdullah claimed that he was merely trying to make an honest living by selling tissues when the incident took a violent turn.
The altercation left Abdullah with severe injuries, including a head injury, a torn ear, and a dislocated right arm. In his emotional recount, Abdullah stated, “I was just trying to make a living, and yet, they attacked me. This has happened to me not once, but three times before.”
After the assault, Abdullah was rushed to a local hospital, where he received stitches for his injuries. The incident has caught the attention of the public, with many expressing their outrage online and demanding accountability for the actions of the Dinsos officials.

In response to the incident, Adi, the Head of Social Rehabilitation at Dinsos Batam, denied the allegations, claiming that the officials had acted in accordance with standard procedures. He asserted that Abdullah’s injuries were not caused by any violence from their team. However, this statement has not appeased the public, and many are calling for a more thorough investigation into the matter.
The Batam government is under increasing pressure to address the issue and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. The community remains in shock over this event, with many questioning the role of authorities in such altercations.
The alleged assault has caused a significant public outcry, prompting both local authorities and residents to demand a fair investigation. It remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to these allegations and whether justice will be served for the tissue seller.
