Government Assures Land Security and Economic Growth for Rempang Residents
Indonesia’s Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), has officially distributed Land Ownership Certificates (SHM) to residents affected by the Rempang Eco-City development. The initiative ensures displaced families receive legal ownership of their new homes in Tanjung Banon, while also strengthening the region’s economic transformation.
The Indonesian government’s commitment to equitable development took another step forward on March 18, 2025, as AHY symbolically handed over SHM certificates to 68 relocated families at Balairungsari BP Batam. The move is part of the government’s vision to transform Barelang into an Integrated Transmigration Economic Zone (KETT).
“Rempang Eco-City will become an integrated economic zone that fosters new economic growth in Batam. I appreciate BP Batam’s efforts in making this development a reality,” AHY stated during the ceremony. He emphasized that infrastructure readiness and environmental considerations must remain top priorities in the project’s execution.

Accompanying AHY, Minister of Transmigration M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara praised BP Batam’s strategic planning, which prioritizes economic potential in resettlement areas. He expressed confidence that Rempang’s transformation would generate long-term benefits for local communities.
“This is not just about relocation; we are developing a modern economic area with direct government support,” he added.
The program, which involves building new homes and fishing docks, is designed to provide residents with sustainable economic opportunities. The government has committed to ensuring social welfare, integrating vocational training, and business assistance into the relocation initiative.
BP Batam Chairman Amsakar Achmad, who is also the Mayor of Batam, thanked the central government for its support, affirming that collaboration between local and national authorities would drive Rempang’s economic success.
“This initiative builds trust among Rempang residents and strengthens their confidence in the government’s vision,” he stated.
Indonesia’s investment climate, particularly in Batam, is increasingly drawing regional and international attention. As the Rempang Eco-City project progresses, its economic impact and strategic position could attract foreign investors and strengthen Batam’s reputation as a key economic hub in Southeast Asia.
