The government of Tanjungpinang is intensifying efforts to develop historical tourism as a strategic move to enhance the city’s attractiveness and educational value, particularly targeting students from nearby Batam.
In a recent meeting held on October 2, 2024, the Secretary of Tanjungpinang, Zulhidayat, underscored the administration’s commitment to developing educational tourism centered around the city’s rich historical heritage.
Zulhidayat emphasized the strategic importance of these educational tours, aiming to package Tanjungpinang’s historical narratives in an appealing way that specifically attracts school students, offering them a deep dive into local history such as the tales of Hang Nadim.

The city has already outlined several educational tour packages that include exploring the evolution of education, interreligious harmony from the era of the Riau-Lingga Kingdom, and the history of trade and ports in the region.
The “Gurindam Experience” on Penyengat Island is highlighted as a key attraction, combining historical tours with the learning of Malay culture, designed to be both educational and enjoyable.
Elfiani Sandri, Assistant of Economy and Development, stressed the importance of collaboration between the education and tourism sectors to make these programs a continuous learning medium while also boosting tourist visits.
